Event Introduction and Details

Activity Background

Post-war Hong Kong was left devastated. On Christmas night in 1953, the Shek Kip Mei fire broke out, engulfing six villages and leaving thousands homeless overnight. Residents lost both their homes and belongings, forcing them into sudden displacement. From homelessness to life in resettlement buildings, they struggled to rebuild their livelihoods while adapting to the challenges of daily living and navigating new relationships within densely populated communities.

Interactive sessions, based on selected stories from the tour booklet "We Grew Up in Shek Kip Mei" (《美荷活現.香港精神–我們在石硤尾長大》), have been designed for family participants. These sessions include hands-on activities such as Plastic Flower Making(穿膠花), Bamboo Fan Making(竹製扇子)and Cat's Cradle(翻繩遊戲).
